Clovis West is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will challenge the Central Grizzlies at 3:30 p.m. Clovis West is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Central will be up against a hot Clovis West team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Clovis West walked away with a 5-2 win over Tehachapi on Saturday.
Peyton Miscione made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Miscione was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Wyatt Goodrich tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single walk any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Micah Raygoza, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
St. Joseph typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Central proved too difficult a challenge. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Knights a 4-0 shutout. That four run margin sets a new team best for the Grizzlies this season.
Like Clovis West, Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Adan Flores. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Furthermore, Flores didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Flores wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Marcelo Rodriguez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Clovis West's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Central, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Clovis West took their win against Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clovis West since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
