The Gardena Panthers won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 62-30 loss at the hands of San Pedro. Gardena has struggled against San Pedro recently, as their contest on Friday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Sanahya Hubbard and Lauren Tobin-Williams certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Hubbard scored seven points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Tobin-Williams scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. Tobin-Williams has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Shamia Overton was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds.
Shalia Coleman was her usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with four steals for San Pedro. Coleman continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Noelani Raigans, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Gardena's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for San Pedro, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season.
Gardena will be playing at home against Banning at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Banning focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday. As for San Pedro, they will head out on the road to challenge Carson at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Carson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 36 on Monday.
