The Saint Mary's Panthers will take on the Sonoma Academy Coyotes at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Saint Mary's is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. Everything went their way against Credo as they made off with a 16-4 win. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Damien Nolan and Logan Donoviel did most of the damage at the plate: Nolan went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Donoviel got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Donoviel has posted since back in May of 2024. Ronan Gardner was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Saint Mary's always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Sonoma Academy waltzed into their match on Saturday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 10-7. Ten seems to be a good number for the Coyotes as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Victor Jennings was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Jennings was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.
In other batting news, Noah Proctor was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Sonoma Academy is undefeated when Proctor posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Madden Pelkey, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Sonoma Academy's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Saint Mary's, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-17 record this season.
