Citizens Christian Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Thomas Jefferson Academy an 18-0 shutout. The win was nothing new for the Patriots as they're now sitting on six straight.
Blake Bryant made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Citizens Christian Academy got a massive performance out of Gray McLean, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Landon Williams was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
Citizens Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .610. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Thomas Jefferson Academy only posted an OBP of .200.
Westwood came out on top against David Emanuel Academy on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Eagles. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
Sam Summerlin was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Cade Swilley, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Citizens Christian Academy's victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-7-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Westwood, their victory bumped their record up to 16-10.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Citizens Christian Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .466. However, it's not like Westwood struggles in that department as they've averaged .436. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
