There's no place like home for the Great Oak Wolfpack, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They managed a 61-57 victory over Vista Murrieta on Wednesday. Given Great Oak's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while Vista Murrieta is ranked 492nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bri Thomas was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below two blocks for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Fuson, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
Despite the loss, Vista Murrieta still got an impressive performance from Kohen Marshall, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Nyah Brown was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Vista Murrieta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Great Oak only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Great Oak pushed their record up to 14-7 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Vista Murrieta, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-16.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Great Oak will take on Chaparral at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Chaparral focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Wednesday. As for Vista Murrieta, they will be playing at home against Murrieta Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Murrieta Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Wednesday.
