It was a good run, but the Moon Area Tigers unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. The match between Moon Area and Upper St. Clair wasn't particularly close, with Moon Area falling 63-44. Moon Area lost against Upper St. Clair in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 60-18 score last time.
Moon Area lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Maria Depner, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and three steals. Depner continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaedin Griggs, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Moon Area's loss dropped their record down to 4-1. As for Upper St. Clair, their win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Moon Area will be home for the holidays to greet Freedom Area at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Freedom Area knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Moon Area likes a good challenge. Upper St. Clair will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Peters Township at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Peters Township presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Upper St. Clair in Pennsylvania (Peters Township is ranked 28th, while Upper St. Clair is ranked 124th).
