The Polytechnic Panthers will venture away from home to square off against the Flintridge Prep Wolves at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Polytechnic came out on top against Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Panthers walked away with a 7-2 win over the Cardinals.
Elijah Ip spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Polytechnic saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Poon, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave Poon a new career-high. Luke Phillips was another, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Flintridge Prep came out on top against Chadwick on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Wolves sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Dolphins. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolves have posted since April 24, 2024.
Will Grable made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other pitching news, Chase Liston tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Flintridge Prep is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-12 otherwise.
Flintridge Prep hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive contests.
Polytechnic's record is now 6-11. As for Flintridge Prep, their record now sits at 7-13.
Polytechnic couldn't quite get it done against Flintridge Prep in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 10-5. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
