Resurrection Christian dropped to 6-6 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Strasburg Indians by a score of 15-14. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Saturday (ten), the Cougars still had to take the loss.
Portia Hattig and Brynne Murawski stepped up to the plate in a big way. Hattig went 2-for-6 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Murawski got on base in four of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Hattig has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Francis, who went 1-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Strasburg, their win bumped their record up to 8-4. The victory continues a trend for them in their matchups with Resurrection Christian: they've now won nine in a row.
On Strasburg's side, Phebe Johnson made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over nine innings while giving up just two earned (and 12 unearned) runs off 14 hits. Johnson was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Addi Kent was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Rachel Rupple was another key player, going 4-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Coming up, Resurrection Christian will challenge Silver Creek at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Strasburg, they will square off against The Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
