The Grant County Braves waltzed into their match Thursday with four straight wins but they left with five. They pulled ahead with a 58-57 photo finish over Ashley Ridge. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the defeat, Ashley Ridge had strong showings from Dianna Blake, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds, and Katie Johnson, who scored 15 points. The matchup was Johnson's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Nadia President, who scored nine points.
Grant County pushed their record up to 7-3 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points per game. As for Ashley Ridge, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3.
Grant County will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against George Washington at 10:30 a.m. on December 29th. George Washington presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Grant County in their respective states (George Washington is ranked ninth in West Virginia, while Grant County is ranked 69th in Kentucky). Ashley Ridge won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Hilton Head Christian Academy at 3:00 p.m. on December 29th.
