Westerly is 0-3 against Mt. Hope since April of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will host the Huskies at 5:00 p.m. Westerly's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Mt. Hope's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Westerly barely beat Chariho the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bulldogs blew past the Chargers 8-2 on Saturday. That's two games straight that the Bulldogs have won by exactly six runs.

Jack Zerbarini and Tom Fiore made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Zerbarini pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Fiore struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave Zerbarini a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At the plate, Zerbarini went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Fiore went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Fiore's first of the season.
In other batting news, Grayson Simmons was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tyler Falcone, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
Smithfield hit Mt. Hope with a seven-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Huskies came up short against the Sentinels, falling 11-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Huskies have suffered against the Sentinels since May 11, 2017.
Mt. Hope saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trace Dubois, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Westerly's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mt. Hope, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Westerly has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mt. Hope struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
