Watauga extended their winning streak to nine on Friday, bumping them up to 9-0. They blew past the McDowell Titans, posting a 55-21 victory. Fans of the Pioneers have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Watauga got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Cade Keller out in front who threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 32 yards and one TD. Keller has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Nyle Peays was another key player, picking up 186 receiving yards and three scores.
Watauga didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Evan Burroughs, Kyle Williams, and Peays picked up one apiece. Watauga received some extra help from Bowen Mayo, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
As for McDowell, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-4. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 217th, while Watauga is ranked 21st).
Although McDowell took the loss, they still got scores from Isael Trejo, Jay'Ron Moore, and Hunter Pittman.
