Lakewood has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Woodrow Wilson Bruins at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Woodrow Wilson took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Lakewood, who comes in off a win.
Lakewood put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 68-43 margin over Millikan. Given Lakewood's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while Millikan is ranked 349th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lakewood relied on the efforts of Nyemah King, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and three steals, and Cristina Jones, who dropped a triple-double on 22 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 steals. Jones is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Amy Rubio, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Woodrow Wilson suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Monday. They were beaten by Long Beach Poly 79-16. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Woodrow Wilson has scored all season.
Lakewood's victory bumped their record up to 20-3. As for Woodrow Wilson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-11.
Everything came up roses for Lakewood against Woodrow Wilson in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 71-30 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lakewood since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
