Last Tuesday, Newport was able to grind out a solid victory over Ryle, taking the game 66-55. Given Newport's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while Ryle is ranked 85th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Newport's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Deshaun Jackson jr, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was Jackson jr's fourth in a row with at least ten points. James Turner was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Huntington Prep humbled Wesley Christian with a 88-34 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Huntington Prep.
Newport pushed their record up to 5-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Huntington Prep, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
