Baseball Recap: Friday's Win Is Calexico's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

Calexico barely beat Palo Verde Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bulldogs' pitchers stepped up to hand the Yellow Jackets a 6-0 shutout on Friday. Considering the Bulldogs have won six games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

David Lara tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jose Ortega was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Andree Tapia was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

Calexico has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Palo Verde Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-8-1 record this season.

Calexico will square off against Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Palo Verde Valley, they are taking a road trip to challenge Calipatria at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
