Prairie - North recap September 24, 2013
Barnesville added to the longest winning streak in Prairie - North this week by beating United North Central co-op [Menahga/Sebeka], 68-12. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Carter Loven made the biggest impact on defense this week as Upsala/Swanville defeated Long Prairie-Grey Eagle. The 5-foot-11 defensive back.
Nick Carlson was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 207 yards on 13 carries as Wadena-Deer Creek lost to Osakis. Teammate Zach Schertler added to the ground attack by rushing for 119 yards.
Tyler Evans put up the best numbers through the air as the Patriots topped the Thunder. He finished with 8 completions for 141 yards and 3 touchdowns. Evans' favorite target this week was Jordan Sales, who caught 4 passes for 75 yards.
Carlson provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Wolverines lost to the Silverstreaks. Carlson's key target this week was Dumpprope, who caught 7 passes for 83 yards.
He was 8-9 with 0 interception.
Dumpprope was the best wideout in the league this week as Wadena-Deer Creek lost to Osakis.
Upsala/Swanville's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Patriots feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Evans has thrown for 274 yards and 4 touchdowns this season, while Sales has 12 catches for 176 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Upsala/Swanville's Sales goes up against Howie Kangas' team's Thomas Brekke.
One of Prairie - North's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Jay Loven's team and the Wolverines face off next week.
Next week's game between the Patriots and Wadena-Deer Creek will feature a good passing match up as Evans will test his arm against Brekke's defensive ability.
As it stands, the Silverstreaks are in third, while Barnesville is in second.
The Warriors made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 12,448 from 12,995. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 68-12 victory over United North Central co-op [Menahga/Sebeka] last week.
