Fulton (Knoxville, Tenn.) football team has experienced heartache that just about every high school football program in America can't imagine.
On Friday, the Falcons experienced the type of amazing play that just about every high school football program in America can't imagine.
In their first regular-season game since 15-year-old teammate Zaevion Dobson died of gunshots sustained while protecting three teenage girls, the Falcons got what so far has to be the play of the year - and they got it from Dobson's brother.
Zack Dobson took on the entire Morristown-Hamblen East defense and won, taking a wild handoff play 60 yards for a touchdown that included everything football fans want to see from a big-time play: running from sideline to sideline, teeth-rattling blocks from linemen on unsuspecting defenders, juke moves abound and finally a triumphant trot into the end zone.
Zack Dobson is a 5-foot-9, 165-pound senior committed to Middle Tennessee State. He's ranked as a three-star recruit by 247Sports, and as shown in the video above, he's masterful in the open field.
Zaevion Dobson was celebrated not just for his athletic ability, but also for his bravery in the face of violence. He was honored at the ESPYs and in mid-June, President Barack Obama tweeted "Zaevion Dobson died saving three friends from getting shot. He was a hero at 15. What's our excuse for not acting?"
His team still honors him, as the MaxPreps roster for the Falcons has Zaevion on the list with the jersey number 024.
