The Cabrillo Conquistadores waltzed into Tuesday's matchup with four straight wins but they left with five. Everything went their way against Nipomo as Cabrillo made off with a 44-24 victory. Given Cabrillo's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 181st, while Nipomo is ranked 868th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cabrillo was led to victory by Jasmyn Hughes and Sophia Austin. Hughes scored 12 points, while Austin scored 14 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Austin has scored at least 25% of Cabrillo's points. Another player making a difference was Angeliyah Gonzalez, who scored 7 points.
Cabrillo's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Nipomo, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.
Cabrillo will head out on the road to face off against Foothill Tech at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Nipomo, they will be playing at home against Morro Bay at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
