On Tuesday, the Sage Creek Bobcats's game was all tied up 23-23 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They managed a 55-50 win over Oceanside. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 14 more assists than your opponent, as Sage Creek did.
Sage Creek got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Harmony Lawler out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Lawler is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Keehn, who scored ten points along with seven assists.
When it comes to explaining why Oceanside lost, one person who can't be blamed is Martina Griffin. Despite the final result, she scored 28 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Griffin has scored all season. Kaitlyn Kaye was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Oceanside struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Sage Creek's victory bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Oceanside, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sage Creek will challenge the Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Torrey Pines focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday. As for Oceanside, they will head out on the road to take on the Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. La Costa Canyon will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
