Softball Recap: Monarch Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Westminster, Monarch was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They came out on top against the Denver North Vikings by a score of 11-8.

Caroline Katzin made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Abi O'Neill looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched.

Back at the plate, Monarch let Elena Hoelsken and Melody Wilton run wild. Hoelsken went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Wilton went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Hoelsken has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Hailey Paddock, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Monarch's record now sits at 2-4. As for Denver North, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-2.

Monarch and Denver North will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Coyotes are set to square off against their familiar foe Mead at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Denver North will take on rival Vista PEAK Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
