The Marshall Barristers will head out on the road to face off against the Wilson Mules at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Marshall suffered their biggest loss since December 9, 2023 on Wednesday. Their tough 49-25 defeat to Franklin might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Marshall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 689th, while Franklin is ranked 307th).
The losing side was boosted by Jeda Taylor, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and five blocks. Taylor is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Alicia Quintanar, who scored two points along with ten rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 52-22, which was the final score in Wilson's tilt against Eagle Rock on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Wilson has suffered against Eagle Rock since January 25, 2019.
Alexis J was Wilson's leading scorer, having posted eight points.
Marshall has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Wilson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-12.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's match: Marshall have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4 threes per game. It's a different story for Wilson, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 threes per game. Given Marshall's sizeable advantage in that area, Wilson will need to find a way to close that gap.
Marshall came up short against Wilson in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 35-22. Can Marshall avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
