Westfield Technical Academy had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 15-5 to make it four. They fell just short of the Old Colony RVT Cougars by a score of 10-9. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Tigers, who until this game were averaging 3.95 runs allowed.
Lucas Cummings was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Cam Witczak and Josh Elmer stepped up to the plate in a big way. Witczak went 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI, while Elmer went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Morawiec, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
As for Old Colony RVT, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games.
Like Westfield Technical Academy, Old Colony RVT also got a great game from a two-way player: Mason Abreu. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Abreu was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Old Colony RVT let Kyle Boucher and Camden Vallee run wild. Boucher went 1-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Vallee got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI. Boucher continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Matthew Robitaille was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
As of now, neither Westfield Technical Academy nor Old Colony RVT have any future games scheduled.
