The Rodriguez Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Alhambra Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Rodriguez sitting on four straight wins and Alhambra on five.
Rodriguez made up a huge gap compared to their last game against River City, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Rodriguez blew past River City 11-3 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won four matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Nick Schikore tossed a big game, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ben Vaughn and Jack Jacobson did most of the damage at the plate: Vaughn scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Jacobson scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Jacobson a new career-high. Kolby Jones also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Rodriguez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Alhambra owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance last Monday. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over Monte Vista. With that victory, the Bulldogs brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Alhambra also got a great performance from Cameron Millar as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Alhambra let Daniel Rivera-Parra and Shane Cowperthwaite run wild. Rivera-Parra scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Cowperthwaite scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Morgan Tran was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
Alhambra pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Rodriguez, their record is now 7-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Rodriguez has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Alhambra struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Rodriguez was able to grind out a solid win over Alhambra when the teams last played back in March of 2020, winning 6-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Rodriguez since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
