The Mendota Aztecs won the last time they faced the Chowchilla Tribe, and things went their way on Wednesday too. Everything went Mendota's way against Chowchilla as Mendota made off with a 47-25 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Mendota.
Leading Mendota to victory were Bethany Oliva and Natalie Membreno. Oliva scored 14 points, while Membreno scored 14 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Membreno has scored at least 25% of Mendota's points. Another player making a difference was Leslie Ontiveros, who scored 6 points.
Despite the loss, Chowchilla saw an underclassman step up: Nour Escheik dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Escheik scored a full 64% of Chowchilla's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Mendota's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Chowchilla, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
Mendota will head out on the road to face off against Farmersville at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Chowchilla, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Delhi at 6:00 p.m.
