Baseball Recap: Kings Christian Extends Winning Streak to Three

Kings Christian made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Laton, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Crusaders put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 14-4 win on Friday. The victory was nothing new for the Crusaders as they're now sitting on three straight.

Haiden Kelso was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-5. He is becoming a predictor of Kings Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 1-6-1 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Kings Christian let Jasiah Zamaripa and Caiden Irwin run wild. Zamaripa scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of his seven plate appearances, while Irwin got on base in four of his seven plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Zamaripa a new career-high. Rusty Martin was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his seven plate appearances.

Kings Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Kings Christian's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-7-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for Laton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Kings Christian will take on Wonderful College Prep Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Laton, they will square off against Strathmore at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
