The Tokay Tigers will take on the Edison Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Tokay is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Tokay barely beat Franklin the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers blew past the Yellowjackets 8-2 on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.
Conner Preap spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Paul Buckley, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Noah Van Dyke, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Tokay always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Edison's offense. They came up short against Ripon on Saturday, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Vikings' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Edison saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julian Avila, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Tokay's victory bumped their record up to 13-10. As for Edison, they moved to 8-11-1 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Tokay has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. However, it's not like Edison struggles in that department as they've averaged .464. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Tokay took their win against Edison in their previous matchup back in February of 2020 by a conclusive 22-5 score. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
