Baseball Recap: Dublin Victorious

Alhambra typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday Dublin proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Bulldogs. The win continues a trend for the Gaels in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.

Matthew Phelps made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other pitching news, Dublin got a great performance from Dalton Doyle as he struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Doyle has posted since back in February.

Back at the plate, Brendan Moddelmog and Brandt Nunemacher did most of the damage at the plate: Moddelmog scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Nunemacher scored a run while going 1-for-4. What's more, Moddelmog posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Evan Salvador, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Dublin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alhambra only managed four hits.

Dublin's record now sits at 14-2. As for Alhambra, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4.

Looking ahead, Dublin will welcome Livermore at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Alhambra, they will take on Clayton Valley Charter at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 3, the Ugly Eagles 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
