Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Velma-Alma Comets walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Tornadoes with a sharp 50-30 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for Velma-Alma, who have now won ten games by 20 points or more so far this season.
Velma-Alma's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Slade Strickland, who rushed for 174 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 264 yards and four touchdowns while completing 79.3% of his passes. Strickland was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 51 yards. Another player making a difference was Langsten Walker, who picked up 187 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
The victory (which was Velma-Alma's eighth in a row) raised their record to 12-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for Drumright, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-1.
Velma-Alma is on the road again on Friday and play against Okeene. Okeene has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 244 points over their last five contests. Drumright does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
