Regarded as the No. 2 overall senior high school basketball prospect in America by
247Sports, 6-foot-9 forward
Harry Giles delivered a verbal commitment to Duke on Friday.
The
Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) star – who will miss the 2015-16 season with an ACL injury – made the announcement live on ESPNU.
Giles joins a promising recruiting class headed to Duke that includes No. 4 overall prospect
Jayson Tatum of
Chaminade (St. Louis, Mo.), No. 14
Frank Jackson of
Lone Peak (Highland, Utah) and No. 40
Javin LeLaurier of
St. Anne's-Belfield (Charlottesville, Va.).
Of course much of that promise depends on the health of Giles. The North Carolina native also tore his ACL, MCL and meniscus during the summer of 2013 while playing for USA Basketball.
Giles bounced back to average over 23 points and 12 rebounds per game as a junior at
Wesleyan Christian Academy (High Point, N.C.), then took MVP honors last summer on Nike's highly-competitive EYBL circuit.
Duke won out over Kansas, Kentucky and Wake Forest for the services of the five-star recruit.
