MaxPreps Top 25 high school football scores: No. 8 Mater Dei faces No. 2 Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas

The biggest high school football game this week is going down in Las Vegas as No. 2 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas.) hosts No. 8 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) on Friday. This is the MaxPreps Game of the Week and can be streamed free on MaxPreps, the NFHS Network or on the MaxPreps YouTube channel at 7 p.m. PT.

This is a huge game when it comes to the MaxPreps Top 25 as the loser is all but out when it comes to finishing the season at No. 1. This will be the fifth meeting between the two and Mater Dei has won the previous four, including a 31-15 victory last season. 

St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) took over the No. 1 spot after Mater Dei's loss to Centennial (Corona, Calif.) and face defending Hawaii state champ Saint Louis (Honolulu, Hawaii). The Braves (4-0) have outscored their first four opponents 160-21. 

Rockwall (Texas) handed No. 22 North Crowley (Fort Worth, Texas) its first regular season loss since 2021 with a 37-35 victory. Brent Rickert connected with Ryan Wiley for the go-ahead score from 20 yards out to take a 37-35 lead in the final minute to snap the defending 6A Division 1 state champs 19-game win streak.

No. 13 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) closed out non-league action with a dominant 42-9 win over Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.). The Trailblazers have outscored their first five opponents, 233-16. 

No. 5 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) takes on Class of 2028 standout Brysen Wright and Mandarin (Jacksonville, Fla.) on Friday in a matchup of undefeated teams. The Ascenders will be featured in our MaxPreps Game of the Week on Sept. 26 at Central (Phenix City, Ala.) and look to add a quality win against a 4-0 Mustangs squad before they make the trip to Alabama.

No. 6 Mission Viejo (Calif.) makes the cross-country trip to face McCallie (Chattanooga, Tenn.) on Friday. The Diablos are 4-0 with quality wins over No. 9 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita), Folsom and Lincoln (San Diego).

No. 15 Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) locks horn with rival Lone Peak (Highland, Utah) in one of the biggest games of the week. This will be the 12th meeting since 2019 and the Chargers have won eight of the previous 11 matchups, including a 30-27 in last year's Class 6A state championship game. 

Riley Dodge and No. 18 Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas) have cruised to a 3-0 start winning by an average margin of 42 points per game. The Dragons take on an undefeated Trinity (Euless, Texas) squad loaded with talent headlined by five-star junior cornerback John Meredith III. He will have a huge challenge on Friday night lining up against 2026 Ohio State commit Brock Boyd. The future Buckeye has 18 catches for 251 yards and four scores after posting 111 receptions for 1,868 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior.
