Basketball Recap: Monterey Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Jalee Johnson and Haylee Trevathan

Monterey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They fell 53-46 to the Boyd Christian Broncos. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 64-48 back in December of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Monterey had strong showings from Haylee Trevathan, who posted 19 points in addition to six boards and four steals, and Jalee Johnson, who went 5 for 6 en route to 10 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Trevathan a new career-high in points.

Boyd Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Macie Bush, who went 9 of 16 on her way to 21 points and four steals. The match was Bush's third in a row with at least ten points. Brooke Kesey was another key player, going 7 for 14 en route to 18 points and eight rebounds.

Monterey's loss dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Boyd Christian, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-9.

Monterey will take on Jackson County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Boyd Christian, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 81-30 victory against Dickson Academy on the 25th.
