Basketball Game Preview: Franklin Wildcats vs. Sheldon Huskies

The Franklin Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Sheldon Huskies at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Last Friday, Franklin was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 52-51 to Pleasant Grove. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 661st, while the Eagles are ranked 252nd).

Despite the loss, Franklin got top-tier performance from Aletha Singleton, who posted 21 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Singleton a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Gonzalez, who put up nine points.

Even though they lost, Franklin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Sheldon was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as they fell 65-61 to Pleasant Grove. The Huskies haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Sheldon's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Franklin, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.

Franklin came up short against Sheldon when the teams last played back in January, falling 66-55. Can Franklin avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
