The Caston Comets will challenge the Tri-County Cavaliers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Caston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Caston is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They came out on top against South Newton by a score of 6-1. The win was nothing new for the Comets as they're now sitting on three straight.
Logan Mollenkopf made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mollenkopf was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Brodie Howard was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. London Herd was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Tri-County got the win against North Newton on Thursday by a conclusive 16-6. The result was nothing new for the Cavaliers, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Nick Foster was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Tri-County is undefeated when Foster posts two or more runs, but 6-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Vance Tyler, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Tri-County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Caston's victory bumped their record up to 19-5. As for Tri-County, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Caston hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355. However, it's not like Tri-County struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Caston came up short against Tri-County when the teams last played back in June of 2025, falling 4-0. Can the Comets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
