After flying high against the Lejeune Devil Pups two weeks ago, the Lakewood Leopards came back down to earth. Lakewood took a 42-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Union. While losing is never fun, Lakewood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 462nd, while Union is ranked 210th).
Despite the defeat, Lakewood saw an underclassman step up: Kimora Corbett dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Corbett has scored all season. Honestee William was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Ariyona Spearman was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds for Union. That makes it three consecutive games in which Spearman has scored at least a third of Union's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zadariyah Faison, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Lakewood's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Union, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakewood's road trip will continue as they head out to face Hobbton at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Union, they will challenge Rosewood at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
