The Montgomery Aztecs were the 75-40 winner over the Victory Christian Academy Knights when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Montgomery fell 45-34 to Victory Christian Academy on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Montgomery can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 414th, while Victory Christian Academy is ranked 201st).
Montgomery lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jordan Whitehead, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Susanna Paliza, who scored three points along with two steals.
Montgomery's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-11. As for Victory Christian Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Montgomery will head out on the road to take on San Ysidro at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. San Ysidro is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Victory Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Mater Dei Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on January 18th. Mater Dei Catholic is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
