The Jonathan Alder Pioneers will head out on the road to take on the West Liberty-Salem Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Jonathan Alder is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
Last Saturday, Jonathan Alder really took it to the Cougars for the full four quarters, racking up a 54-27 win on the road. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-11.
Meanwhile, West Liberty-Salem unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Monday. They fell 35-24 to Miami East. While losing is never fun, West Liberty-Salem can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 141st, while the Vikings are ranked 23rd).
West Liberty-Salem's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ava Astorino, who scored 11 points, and Lilly Weaver who scored six points along with five rebounds and three steals. Weaver is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played.
Jonathan Alder has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for West Liberty-Salem, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-3.
Jonathan Alder and the Tigers were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in February of 2022, but the Pioneers came up empty-handed after a 36-35 loss. Can Jonathan Alder avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
