The Stagg Delta Kings's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 52-32 walloping at the hands of Northgate. While losing is never fun, Stagg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 681st, while Northgate is ranked 211th).
Several Delta Kings players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Destiny Martinez , who scored ten points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Natalie Harper , who scored six points.
Leading Northgate to victory were Hana Neuman and Amelia Schrag. Neuman scored 14 points, while Schrag dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. The contest was Neuman's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Samantha Myhr was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight rebounds.
Stagg has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Northgate, they pushed their record up to 9-4 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Stagg won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Yreka at 12:00 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Hopefully Yreka focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 on Thursday. Northgate will finish 2023 at home by hosting Murrieta Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Murrieta Valley has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 229 points over their last four contests.
