The King City Mustangs were the 36-31 winner over the Gonzales Spartans when they last played one another on January 2nd, but their luck changed this time around. King City fell 48-36 to Gonzales on Thursday. King City has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
When it comes to explaining why King City lost, one person who can't be blamed is Malaya Carrillo. Despite the final result, she scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Janesa Lopez, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and six steals.
King City's loss dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Gonzales, their win bumped their record up to 2-5.
King City will head out on the road to take on Pacific Collegiate at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Pacific Collegiate's defense has only allowed 27.9 points per game this season, so King City's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Gonzales, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Notre Dame at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
