Northgate hasn't had much luck against Foothill recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Broncos will welcome the Falcons at 4:00 p.m. Northgate is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Clovis hit Northgate with a seven-run sixth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Broncos fell 10-5 to the Cougars.
Northgate got a good showing from Sebastian Shum, who pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Shum has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Shane Malloy was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three runs. Another player making a difference was Luke Dress, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Foothill entered their tilt with Dougherty Valley on Friday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Wildcats. Considering the Falcons have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Foothill also got a great performance from Ryan Cooney as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Cooney has become a key player for the Falcons: the team is 5-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Grant Hoenninger, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. RJ Manicki was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Foothill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Foothill's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Northgate, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.
Northgate might still be hurting after the 7-0 loss they got from Foothill when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Broncos have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
