Illini West extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping them up to 20-4. They blew past the West Prairie Cyclones 9-0. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Wesley Robertson made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cash Jones, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Aiden Hocker was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Illini West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive matchups.
As for West Prairie, they now have a losing record of 9-10-1. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
On West Prairie's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Whitman, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Whitman has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
Illini West wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 6-2 win against Cuba/Spoon River Valley on the 11th. As for West Prairie, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 13-7 victory against Hamilton/Warsaw on the 12th.
