The McDonough Warhawks came tearing into Tuesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Stockbridge by a score of 72-59. Given McDonough's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while Stockbridge is ranked 459th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading McDonough to victory were Keenan Gray and Nigel Thomas. Gray scored 23 points, while Thomas scored 20 points along with two steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Thomas posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Zaiden Greene, who scored six points along with five steals.
Stockbridge lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jason Brookins, who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Brookins is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kameron Jackson, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
McDonough pushed their record up to 16-2 with that victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.2 points per game. As for Stockbridge, they are on a 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-17.
Coincidentally, McDonough and Stockbridge will both be playing Woodland the next time they take the court. McDonough will head out to face Woodland at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Stockbridge will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
