The Segerstrom Jaguars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 20 points or more this season. They blew past Garden Grove 57-17 at home. Given Segerstrom's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while Garden Grove is ranked 934th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Stephanie Valenciano, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that she pulled down eight or more rebounds. Faith Ledesma was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Segerstrom pushed their record up to 15-5 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Garden Grove, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Segerstrom will take on Ocean View at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ocean View has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 13. As for Garden Grove, they will head out on the road to face off against Katella at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Katella will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
