The Otay Ranch Mustangs will take on the Vista Panthers in a tournament on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Otay Ranch 3.3, Vista 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Otay Ranch is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Scripps Ranch just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 5-2 to the Falcons. The game marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Otay Ranch saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Moyses Salido, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Vista got themselves on the board against Rancho Buena Vista on Thursday, but Rancho Buena Vista never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Longhorns with a sharp 12-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Sonny Prue made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Vista got a big performance out of Nicolas Bala, who went 2-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs Bala has posted since back in May of 2025. Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Otay Ranch has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Vista struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
