Davis Sr. has won three straight games at home, while Jesuit has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. Davis Sr. will host Jesuit at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Davis Sr. 3.3, Jesuit 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Davis Sr. and Oak Ridge, and Davis Sr. kept the tradition alive. Davis Sr.'s pitcher stepped up to hand Oak Ridge a 2-0 shutout on Thursday. While the Blue Devils didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Not much got past Cade Castles, who gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks to keep Oak Ridge off the board. Castles also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Davis Sr. is 6-1-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-3 otherwise.
At the plate, Eli Burnham was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Alex Kieffer, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Jesuit beat Christian Brothers 5-2 on Saturday.
Sammy Kane was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Parker Lipp looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Cade Colombara, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Javier Ramirez was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Jesuit lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Davis Sr. is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4-1 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 8.67 hits in those games compared to only 5.5 in the others. Jesuit's win bumped their record up to 10-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Davis Sr. has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Jesuit struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Davis Sr. might still be hurting after the 16-1 loss they got from Jesuit in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Davis Sr. avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
