Corona is 0-10 against Santiago since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Corona Panthers will be playing at home against the Santiago Sharks at 7:00 p.m. Corona is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
On Wednesday, Corona came up short against King and fell 46-33. While losing is never fun, Corona can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 321st, while King is ranked 94th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Chinazaekpere Irechukwu, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Liaga, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Santiago scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Roosevelt with a sharp 67-43 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Santiago has posted since December 6, 2023.
Corona's defeat dropped their record down to 15-9. As for Santiago, their victory bumped their record up to 12-10.
Corona took a serious blow against Santiago in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 86-20. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Corona was down 51-13.
