The Glendale Adventist Cougars had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They managed a 20-15 win over Southwestern Academy on Wednesday.
Glendale Adventist found their leader in underclassman Jazmin Wong, who scored 8 points along with 7 steals. Sofia Escudero was another key contributor, scoring 2 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 blocks.
Southwestern Academy's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Valza Jusufi, who scored 4 points along with 13 rebounds. Jusufi scored a full 26.7% of Southwestern Academy's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Michelle Fakrogha, who scored 7 points along with 11 rebounds.
Glendale Adventist's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Southwestern Academy, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Glendale Adventist will square off against Yeshiva University of Los Angeles (YULA) at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. Yeshiva University of Los Angeles (YULA) is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games. As for Southwestern Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against International School of Los Angeles at 4:20 p.m. on Friday.
