West Iredell has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Hickory Red Tornadoes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
On Tuesday, West Iredell was the victim of a rough 83-60 defeat at the hands of Statesville. While losing is never fun, West Iredell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 600th, while Statesville is ranked 237th).
Meanwhile, Hickory put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat North Iredell 95-48 on the road. Hickory has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 contests by 20 points or more this season.
Hickory's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was John Holbrook, who scored 18 points. Holbrook hasn't dropped below 16 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamien Little, who scored 16 points.
West Iredell dropped their record down to 2-18 with that loss, which was their ninth straight at home. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Hickory, their win bumped their record up to 21-0.
West Iredell took a serious blow against Hickory in their previous meeting back in January, falling 107-63. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Holbrook, who scored 25 points.
