The Trinity Bulldogs will face off against the Asheboro Blue Comets at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Trinity has given up an average of 12.6 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Trinity is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs last Tuesday, they were much more limited against Wheatmore on Tuesday. They lost 11-1 to the Warriors.
Trinity saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abigail Rebert, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, Asheboro came into Thursday's game having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by an 18-2 margin over Northeast Guilford on Thursday. Considering the Blue Comets have won five contests by more than 14 runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Mykala Cook was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Cook was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyndall Snipes, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Madison Hicks was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Asheboro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .612 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Trinity's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Asheboro, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 5-8.
Trinity got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March against Asheboro by a conclusive 15-9 score. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Blue Comets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
