Liberty extended their winning streak to four on Wednesday, bumping them up to 9-2. Everything went their way against the Hillcrest Trojans as they made off with a 13-6 win. Considering the Bison have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Brooklyn Rackstraw spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lily Matthews was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jolie Tompkins, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
Liberty was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .378. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
As for Hillcrest, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-3. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this matchup were averaging 3.62 runs allowed.
On Hillcrest's side, Ashley James got Hillcrest off to a strong start despite the final result, striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Sierra Siracusa was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Emily Valdez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Liberty will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Rancho Cucamonga at 3:15 p.m. on April 7. As for Hillcrest, they will be playing at home against Canyon Springs at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.71 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
