The Edgewood Lions will square off against the Pomona Red Devils at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
If Edgewood beats Pomona with 17 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Lions didn't even let Bassett on the board on Thursday, marking the Lions' second-straight 17-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but the Lions sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Evan Davis made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, earning one RBI and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Edgewood's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Aaron Magdaleno was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zack Davis, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.
Edgewood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .634. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Pomona got themselves on the board against La Puente on Thursday, but La Puente never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 31-0 margin over the Warriors. The win was familiar territory for the Red Devils, who have now won four matchups in a row.
Noah Zayas was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Zayas was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other pitching news, Pomona got a great performance from Vince Huguez as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Huguez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Emmanuel Campos was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Leo Luna was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Edgewood pushed their record up to 13-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Pomona, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Edgewood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pomona struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Edgewood came out on top in a nail-biter against Pomona in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 5-3. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Red Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
