Basketball Game Preview: Burroughs Burros vs. Hesperia Scorpions

The Burroughs Burros are taking a road trip to challenge the Hesperia Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Burroughs has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Last Thursday, Burroughs blew past Sultana, posting a 77-25 victory. The Burros have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 20 points or more this season.

Burroughs' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jhavmine Ave, who posted 17 points and seven steals. Ave has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 14 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyla Baird, who went 6 for 12 on her way to 18 points.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Hesperia's strategy against Silverado on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Hesperia blew Silverado out of the water with an 80-38 final score. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Scorpions had established a 40 point advantage.

Burroughs has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.2 points per game. As for Hesperia, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-12.

Burroughs won a contest that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting on January 9th, slipping by Hesperia 61-60. The rematch might be a little tougher for Burroughs since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
